National Night Out Returns on Aug. 5

Drexel Public Safety is once again hosting National Night Out on Aug. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. along Lancaster Walk. This family-friendly event aims to foster a positive relationship and true sense of community among neighbors and law enforcement. Join Drexel Public Safety and campus partners for an evening of resources, activities, food and live music from the Groove City Band. New for this year, you can also have your children fingerprinted for free by the National Child ID Program. This annual event provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances, making communities safer and more caring places to live and work.

Donate (or Gather) Supplies and Save the Planet at Drexel’s Buy Nothing Depot

The Climate & Sustainability team is accepting donations for Drexel's Buy Nothing Depot, located on the first floor of the PSA building. Buy Nothing Depot is a resource for the Drexel community to donate and accept used items in good working condition for use on campus or at home. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to browse the depot’s inventory on Wednesday afternoons during the academic terms between 2–4 p.m. (The Buy Nothing Depot is closed during break and finals weeks.)

Inventory includes office supplies like pens, pencils, filing materials, computer monitors, binder clips, staplers, etc. There is also a rotating selection of small home items like coffee mugs, small appliances, decor items, books and lamps. The student organization Drexel Reworn offers good quality used clothing in the space as well. (Imagine a very small thrift store, but the items are free for you to take!)

Does your office or unit have unused supplies lying around? Email sustainability@drexel.edu to see if they’re eligible for donation.

Please note: Because the world has largely moved to digital information sharing and storage, the depot cannot accept donations of items like hanging file folders, binders, and filing cabinets.

Professional Development Spotlight: Leading Across Differences

Being able to lead teams in a way that fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment is a vital supervisory skill. Understanding the interactions that can take place on teams because of difference, and choosing leadership strategies appropriately, can be challenging. What happens when triggers divide team members from each other, or even from the supervisor? This workshop on Aug. 20 from 10-11:30 a.m. is intended to encourage participants to critically examine their own and others’ viewpoints, and practice using some leadership actions to work through these challenging situations. This session is open to Drexel faculty and professional staff and counts as a core component for those participating in the Art of Management Certificate Program. Register on Career Pathway.
